THE MOUNT HOPE CHRISTIAN CHURCH is a congregation composed of immersed believers in Christ, accepting the Bible as the revealed Word of God. We recognize Christ as the only head of His Church (Col. 1:18, Eph. 1:22, 23) and accept the Scriptures as the only authority for faith and practice. We do not claim to be the only Christians but desire to be Christians only, by wearing His name (Acts 11:26) and exalting His name in word and deed (Col. 3:1Eph. 1:22, 237).
We proclaim the same terms of admission to the church as did the apostles. They declared that one must:
1. Hear the gospel (Rom. 10:17);
2. Believe in Jesus Christ as the unique Son of God (Acts 16:31, Mark 16:16);
3. Repent of sins (Acts 17:30);
4. Confess Christ before men (Matt. 10:32, Rom. 10:10);
5. Be baptized by immersion for the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38, Rom. 6:3-6). Then a Godly life (I Peter 1:15-16) and faithfulness to Christ (Rev. 2:10) are imperative to eternal life.
In matters of government the congregation is completely autonomous with an elected board of elders and deacons to direct the spiritual and business affairs of the church (Titus 1:5-9; I Tim. 3:1-13; I Peter 5:1-4; Acts 6:1-6).
We join hands and hearts with all baptized believers in the plea for Christian unity of all followers of Christ by the restoration of New Testament Christianity and the complete surrender to the leading of the Holy Spirit. We are determined not to make any matter a test of fellowship on which the Lord has not clearly spoken.
The Lord’s Supper is observed each Lord’s Day, proclaiming the Lord’s death until He comes again (I Cor. 11:26) and is spread for all Christians. The church advocates New Testament stewardship of proportionate giving (I Cor. 16:2) through the medium of tithes and offerings.
